FORT WORTH, Tex. -- In four NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series starts at the Texas Motor Speedway, Bobby Hamilton has yet to finish out of the top 10 . . . but that's not necessarily the reason the 1.5-mile oval, site of Friday night's Chex 400, is one of his favorite tracks.

"Next to Daytona, Texas is just one of the biggest things out there," said Hamilton, defending champion of the Truck Series. "There isn't much that compares to a race there, whether you are talking about the grandstands or what's going on on the race track."

Hamilton finished seventh in last year's Chex 400, one of the most exciting races of any series in the track's history, and was third in the fall race. In 2003, he finished seventh in the Chex 400 and 10th in the fall.

"One thing the fall race showed me last year is you can pass at Texas Motor Speedway," Hamilton said. "We started 32nd in that race and were able to finish third. That's a long way up there but it's the kind of racing you see in the Truck Series and the type of racing you see at Texas Motor Speedway. No doubt, that's the kind of racing you are going to see in the Chex 400.

"Just because somebody qualifies at the back of the field, it's not smart to count them out too soon. Anybody who counted us out last year found that out," he added. "The track is just too wide and the racing too good to figure anybody is not going to be right in the thick of things."

But it's more than just the racing that excites Hamilton about Texas Motor Speedway.

"The fans at Texas are incredible. They are very enthusiastic, and they know their racing," Hamilton said. "I think that Chex probably recognized that and that was one of the reasons they particularly wanted that market and to get onto that race. I don't blame them for that at all. It's a crowd that understands racing and appreciates sponsors like Chex.

"A brand the size of Chex, it makes me feel good as an owner to know we drive that much excitement," he added, "enough excitement that a corporate sponsor of that nature would want to be part of what we are doing. That's just good for all us but Texas Motor Speedway plays a big role in that. . . not just the speedway, which does a great job, but the fans who are coming out."
