Lofton, No. 7 Team Rally to Finish 22nd in Texas
Justin Lofton and the Mark Rette led No. 7 visitpit.com team banded together, stayed focused, and pulled through to finish 22nd under the lights at a chilly Texas Motor Speedway on Friday after early trouble and tire issues plagued the team's bid in the WinStar World Casino 350k.
"I'm so proud of all of the guys on this team. They work hard on these trucks every week, from the time at the shop to pit stops. I got into the wall early and they just kept at it, fixing the truck, and tracking the tire wear. We had a vibration on and off all night with the tires. I wish we could have had a better finish," Lofton said.
Lofton took the green flag from the 17th position but hit with the wall on lap one, damaging the right side of his Toyota Tundra. The crew got to work, repairing the damage under a caution flag. Lofton took the restart from the 34th position.
A fender rub 10 laps later however, forced Lofton to the pits one more time for more work and a fresh set of right side tires.
By the time the race hit the 50-lap mark, the crew had noticed not only damage to their old tires from the fender rub, but also indication marks of wear. Officials from Goodyear made numerous passes on pitroad monitoring tire wear, but did not notice a cause for concern among the majority of the competition.
With Lofton noting only a slight vibration and tight condition throughout the race, he stayed on track, cracking the top-25 on lap 100.
Through the final 47 laps, the team continued to persevere with Lofton gaining a few more positions, climbing into 22nd at the drop of the checkered flag.
The next race for Lofton and the No. 7 team will be on Friday, November 12th at Phoenix International Raceway.
