David Starr jumps to 9th in point standings

Dover, Del...Earning an 8th place finish at the MBNA-America 200, Round 6 of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at Dover International Speedway has jumped David Starr into 9th place in the point standings.

"Wow, what a race," said Starr at the end of the 200 Laps on the famed Monster Mile. "The Spears Motorsports crew did an awesome job, both in making my Number 75 Spears Chevy Silverado race ready and in the pits during the race. We had a really good truck today and it showed."

Running in 12th during practice, Starr felt good about qualifying. However, as often is the case in racing, things didn't go exactly as planned. "We were really loose," said Starr. I talked to a number of guys after qualifying and the general consensus was that the track was a bit loose. But that was nothing compared to us. The crew made a bunch of changes and by the time "Happy Hour" rolled around, things were much better."

Lining up on the Startline in 22nd, Starr once again proved just how good he is at coming from the back to the front. Getting up on the wheel the minute the Green Flag dropped, Starr began making his way through the field. By the time he made his first pit stop, he was already in 11th. "We gained a bunch of spots in our first pit stop," he explained. "The guys were just incredible and their fast action made a big difference. They kept making changes on the truck and our Chevy just kept getting better and better throughout the race."

Continuing his march forward, Starr moved up until he was running in 3rd. "Unfortunately we had to make our last pit stop under Green," he explained. "It was a shame because a caution came out a few laps later. Had we been able to predict that, we could have waited to pit and come out with a higher finish. We've been gaining ground every race and that is what's important. If we can keep moving up, we will definitely have a shot at bring home the championship, both for Chevy and Wayne and Connie Spears.
