October 26, 2009 (Mooresville, N.C.) - Germain Racing's No. 30 Tundra was last seen in "Copart Blue" at Kentucky Speedway in July. The Copart Tundra returns to action at Talladega Superspeedway, dressed in an appropriately slick paint job for the Halloween Day action in Saturday's NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Mountain Dew 250 fueled by Fred's. The race marks the final chapter in the Copart "Challenge of Champions."
"In the Copart 'Challenge of Champions,' Copart gave race fans that voted for Todd Bodine at Copart.com a chance to win a trip to see him compete in the Copart Tundra at Talladega Superspeedway. Darlene Coleman of Beloit, WI, will be in Talladega with the Copart Tundra crew this weekend and we're looking forward to having her be a part of our team," said Bodine's crew chief, Mike Hillman Jr.
Another part of the Copart Challenge of Champions is to crown a Copart Champion driver and give a special award on behalf of the champion that wins the Copart Challenge of Champions. Copart sponsors 2006 Truck Series champion Bodine, as well as 2007 Truck Series champion Ron Hornaday Jr.
"It's great to see Copart stepping in with the offer of the donation to the champion's charity of choice. I picked the American Cancer Society--it is a great cause. We all need to do what we can to help. Hopefully we can win the American Cancer Society a little bit of money," said Bodine, who will wear a pink helmet in the Talladega race to help promote National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Hillman and the Copart Tundra crew have prepared chassis TRD-058 for racing at Talladega. This chassis kicked off the 2009 season with a win at Daytona becoming the first unsponsored truck to win in 62 Truck Series races. Bearing "Copart Blue," TRD-058 will defend a superspeedway win streak that dates back to Talladega, 2007, and features back-to-back wins at Talladega and Daytona as well as one pole award at Talladega. TRD-058 is the only Toyota Tundra to win at Talladega.
Todd Bodine, Driver, No. 30 Copart Tundra
On Talladega Superspeedway...Is Experience a Key?...Is Luck Most Important?
"Experience is everything at Talladega, especially in the draft. Knowing what you want to do and how you can accomplish it. The draft is a tricky thing and you can just as easily make a mistake as make the right move."
"Being smart is more important than luck, and so is understanding how to use the draft to your advantage instead of your disadvantage. Talladega is a lot about using patience in the draft and understanding you're not going to pull out and pass, you have to use other trucks to make your passes."
Would a Win 'Make Up' for this Roller Coaster Season?
"One race doesn't make a season. Winning Talladega would be a great victory for the Copart Tundra team but it wouldn't make up for the ups and downs we've had this year."
Mike Hillman Jr., Crew Chief, No. 30 Copart Tundra
On Talladega Superspeedway
"For a crew chief, Talladega is both one of the most exciting and frustrating tracks on the Truck Series schedule. The racing, sometimes even the practice sessions, take your breath away because it's so exciting. But as a crew chief, you feel like your hands are cuffed when the truck rolls out onto the track. You want to be able to make changes if your driver needs changes, but at Talladega, there's not much you can do to help the truck go faster there. Really you become a spectator once you've put it on track."
