ROYAL CROWN RACE NOTES NAPA 300K PIKES PEAK INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY MAY 16, 1999
* COMPTON ELEVATES TO THE PEAK OF THE NCTS STANDINGS Stacy Compton, driver of the No. 86 RC Dodge, is currently in first place of the NCTS point standings with six consecutive top-four finishes and one Bud Pole Award at Bakersfield on April 9th. "Our team has really kept us up front this year," said Compton. "Kevin (Crew Chief) is giving me a good truck and the pit stops have been awesome. We'll have the horsepower this weekend to keep us in the points lead." Compton holds a 20- point advantage over Ron Hornaday, 995-975.
* ARRINGTON IS THE 'ACE IN THE HOLE' Does anyone remember Randy Renfro in the No. 78 MCI Dodge in last year's race? Renfro had the truck to beat as he charged through the field, displaying a strong motor with plenty of horsepower. Although Renfro lost the race (his truck ran out of fuel), it was evident that the engine was strong. When Compton signed on with Dodge in the off season, he had one request: hire Joey Arrington to build our motors. Arrington built Renfro's motor last season. "Joey is our ace in the hole," said Compton. "We'll have plenty of horsepower this weekend."
* TEAM RC, LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL AND THE GOOSE Royal Crown Cola, the official soft-drink for Little League baseball, has invited former major league baseball pitcher Rich "The Goose" Gossage and 24 little league players from Colorado Springs to the race on Sunday. The players will join Team RC for a garage tour and autograph session. Compton will compete in the No. 86 RC Little League truck at Texas Motor Speedway on June 11th.
