Team Chevy Silverado Drivers Rally to Top-10 Finishes
Madison, IL - Team Chevy Silverado drivers Mike Bliss and Aric Almirola rallied to score ninth and tenth place finishes in the Ram Tough 200 at Gateway International Raceway.
The race was won by Todd Bodine (Toyota) followed by Ted Musgrave and David Reutimann.
MIKE BLISS, No. 16 TKO Graphics Silverado, Started Eighth, Finished 9th: "We didn't have a very good truck all night, just hung on to get where we finished. Nothing we did seem to make it handle any better we were just too tight."
ARIC ALMIROLA, No. 17 Spears Manufacturing Silverado, Started 22nd, Finished 10th: "What a night. I am pretty happy with our finish. When we rolled off of pit road for the start, I could talk to my crew and they could hear me and me them. Then about three laps into the race, they couldn't hear me, we changed radios and every thing else we could think of but I went the whole night trying to give Dave (McCarty, crew chief) hand signals to tell them what was going on with the truck. I am pretty proud of our team and how we rallied back and got a decent finish. It helped us with the cautions because I could get them some signals about the truck. It got pretty crazy there at the end. We stayed out on older tires so they guys that had fresher tires got us there in the last few laps but still, the gamble for track position Dave took really paid off for us and we got our first top-10 of the season."
MATT CRAFTON, No. 88 Menard's/Energizer Silverado, Started 12th, Finished 11th: ""We were horrible on restarts tonight. It would take my truck at least five laps or more to get going. Then I started picking up some spots there near the end and then the motor started laying down and I had to switch the ignition box right there at the end and actually it started picking back up again. I don't know if we had a box or something go bad.
The truck was pretty good after a thirty or forty lap run, but we just couldn't get any green flag runs tonight like you usually have here. If we had, I think we would have been a lot better. We also were on a different (pit) sequence than a lot of those guys in the top ten and our tires were pretty worn out right there in the end of the race."
RON HORNADAY, JR., No. 33 Kevin Harvick, Inc. Silverado, Started 22nd, Finished 15th: "Our KHI Silverado was really good today. Our first run was our best, then we made some tire pressure changes and we got really loose. We started to make adjustments and we were doing well until we got caught up in the wreck. I'm really proud of how the guys did today. Lance and the rest of the team gave me a great truck, we just had some bad luck. Our Chevy was really good during long runs. We just couldn't get going with all the cautions."
KRAIG KINSER, No. 46 CENTRIX Auto Finance Silverado, Started 32nd, Finished 17th: "We had a busy night tonight on the track and in the pits. We got some body damage pretty early in the race when I made contact with another truck then the wall. But Randy (Goss) and the crew worked hard to fix the truck and get us back on the lead lap. We got down a lap and with the lucky dog and things started to go pretty smoothly but then we had a little more trouble on the track so had to come down to make some repairs and got another lap down. But every time the guys worked on it, we got a little better. I wish I would have figured out a few things out there a little earlier in the race and I think we could have had a better run. My Silverado was pretty good there at the end."
DENNIS SETZER, No. 85 E85 FlexFuel Silverado, Started Ninth, Finished 23rd:
Q - Pretty wild night for you. What happened there in the end?
"Yeah we tore the truck up pretty bad there on that last lap. I got into the 04 truck there coming off of turn two and when I backed off someone got into the back of me and turned me. It was a hard hit."
Q -You guys looked like you might be in position to win this thing until the flat tire.
"We were in really good position when that happened. The pit sequence we were on had us on about ten lap older tires than the other leaders, but they were going to have to pass a lot of trucks to get to us. It was a shame because we got our E85 FlexFuel Silverado in front and were good to go to the end there before that restart. The right rear felt a little low to me and one of the other trucks came up and told me it was going down. We had to pit cause the tire was going down, and came very close to losing a lap. That was a shame because the truck was running pretty good at that point and Eric and the guys had called a pretty good race to get us in the lead. But with all the early wrecks there was a lot of debris out there and I guess we picked up something."
KERRY EARNHARDT, No. 13 ThorSport Racing Silverado, Started 26th, Finished 27th: Note: Earnhardt was involved in a multi-truck incident on lap 104. The No. 13 ThorSport Silverado was damaged too extensively to return to the race.
KYLE KRISILOFF, No. 15 ditech.com Silverado, Started 20th, Finished 33rd: Note: Krisiloff was involved in a multi-truck incident on lap 61. The No. 15 ditech.com Silverado was damaged too extensively to return to the race.
