David Comments on the 2004 Race and Returning to Gateway International Raceway:
"It was such an exciting race last year in St. Louis. It was the end of the multiple green/white/checkered rule - when NASCAR went to only one attempt at a green/white/checkered finish in each of their premier Series. The rule sure went out with a bang and the race never to be forgotten.
I didn't have the fastest truck there and we had been running fourth, fifth, sixth all day long. The class of the field as I remember it was Jack Sprague, Bobby Hamilton and Shane Hmiel. I was racing back with Chad Chaffin, and I was just remembering trying to figure out how to get around Chad so I could finish third or fourth at the time. I was trying to get around Chad and was having a hard time. It was exciting. I never thought that I would ever have a shot at winning the race because, like I said, we were racing for fourth, I believe it was. The class of the field was Bobby Hamilton and Shane Hmiel, but as the green-white-checker came into play, and as first, second and third were knocking themselves out, before you knew it, me and Chad were racing for the lead. It was a wild night. It was exciting. I was racing for fourth, and then we ended up racing for the lead and ended up winning the race. It was an exciting night."
"We're looking forward to taking our Silverado back to Gateway to defend our title. Dave McCarty and the guys always put a great truck underneath me and I'm sure St. Louis will not be any different. I've run really well the last few years at Gateway and McCarty knows the setup we need. Gateway is a fun track and we have the right truck to bring home back to back victories in the No. 75 Spears Manufacturing Chevrolet Silverado. It will be an exciting race for the fans and the competitors. You can be sure of that."
