Mansfield, OH - When the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series visits Ohio for the first time in its ten-year history, it will mark the return of major league NASCAR racing to the state for the first time in 50 years. To mark the momentous occasion, race fans from all across the state will have an opportunity to meet their favorite series drivers up close and personal at an autograph session at the Sears store in the Richland Mall. After the autograph session there will be a parade of the team transporters from the mall to Mansfield Motorsports Speedway, roughly 10 miles away.
The 60-minute autograph session will kick off at 6:30 P.M. on Thursday May 13. Following the autograph session, the transporter parade will depart from the Sears parking lot and wind its way to MMS, starting at 7:30 P.M. Both events are free of charge to the public.
"Ever since we announced this race last fall, we have been working hard on making the entire weekend a festival for the local community," said Mansfield Motorsports Speedway General Manager Jerry Smith. "This autograph session on May 13 is a perfect way to kick off the weekend. It will give our fans a chance to see the drivers, talk to them, and wish them good luck for the weekend. Some teams are going to make their trailers open to the public, so they can see that these rigs are really just a race shop on wheels. And when all that wraps up, all of the transporters will depart from the mall and parade over to the speedway.
"I heard about the autograph session in Daytona and that people were lined up from one end of the mall to the other. I am confident that we can top that here in Mansfield. Our fans are so starved for NASCAR racing, they are going to turn out by the hundreds for a chance to meet their favorite drivers."
The local business community has also received the event warmly.
"We have discussed this with many of the local business and community leaders, and have had a tremendous response," Smith continued. "We really think all of Mansfield and Mid-Ohio will turn out to show their support for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series."
The Richland Mall is located at the corner of Lexington-Springmill Road and Ohio State Route 309 in the town of Ontario, just west of the city of Mansfield. The transporters will be staged in the Sears parking lot, located on the southeast corner of the mall.
