Hansen at Nazareth: Ask any driver and Nazareth Speedway's on their list of tricky tracks. Scott Hansen, driver of the No. 52 Oakwood Homes Chevrolet, has never competed at Nazareth Speedway.
"The first practice session will be the first time I ever make a lap at Nazareth," Hansen said. "Our team owner, Ken Schrader, told me that Nazareth is like a small Pocono because the track is sort of triangle shaped and each turn has a different banking. From what I have been told, Nazareth appears to be a uniquely configured track and I think it will be extremely challenging to compete there." Equipment: The Oakwood Homes Racing team is taking the same truck to Nazareth that competed earlier this year at Homestead and Phoenix.
"We are bringing this particular truck to Nazareth because the front end has good downforce, which is essential in the truck's overall handling," crew chief Wally Brown said. "Handling will be the most important factor at Nazareth. The team that can dial in the setup there will be the one in victory lane after the race."
1998 Statistics: The Oakwood Homes Racing team started 16th and finished 22nd in last year's race at Nazareth Speedway.
Nazareth Homecoming: Several members of the Oakwood Homes Racing team grew up around Nazareth Speedway. Crew chief Wally Brown, from Bethlehem, Pa., has strong ties to the area.
"I used to compete every weekend at several tracks near Nazareth while I was in college," Brown said. " I raced at Big Diamond Speedway in Minorsville, Pa. on Friday, at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pa. on Saturday and Penn National Speedway in Grantville, Pa. on Sunday. This area is very special to me because this is where my career in racing started. I grew up around Nazareth and all of my friends and family still live in Bethlehem. In fact, Saturday night before the race, I will attend my oldest sister's wedding and she will come to the track on Sunday to watch the Oakwood Homes Racing team compete before she goes on her honeymoon."
