Crawford Drives Homes Another Top 10
Pikes Peak, CO- Rick Crawford and the #14 Milwaukee Electric Tool Ford race team drove home another top ten finish by finishing ninth in the Jelly Belly 200 at Pikes Peak International Raceway. This is the team's sixth top ten in the first seven races of the 2001 Craftsman Truck Series season. The ninth place finish moves the team to sixth place in the Craftsman Championship Race.
The Craftsman Truck Series qualifying was rained out on Saturday and the teams started the race in their championship point position. Once again a Dodge started from the pole and won for the seventh race in a row.
The Milwaukee Electric Tool Ford started in fifth place but was unable to gain track position from then on. "We had a good truck but we just were not able to get it to where we could keep up with the leaders", stated driver Rick Crawford. On lap 68 when the #14 Ford was getting ready to make a green flag pit stop, the first caution flag came out with a spin in turn four. The Heavy Duty Pit Crew went to work on the #14 with a right side tire change, fuel and chassis adjustments. "The guys in the pits did a good job today and held their own; Jeff Lyday with Roush Racing gave us another strong motor", Crawford went on to say. With three laps to go a caution came out that set the stage for a green, white, checkered flag finish. In the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, the race cannot end under a caution flag. The #14 Milwaukee Electric Tool Ford was in tenth place at the restart, but passed the #50 on the backstretch and picked up a ninth place finish. That last lap pass also enabled Crawford to be the top finishing Ford.
The Craftsman Truck Series is off until June 1st, when the series travels to `The Monster Mile' in Dover, Delaware. Last year at Dover, new crew chief Ray Stonkus came on board and helped guide the #14 Ford to it's best effort of the season by finishing third. The race will be telecast on ESPN and broadcast on MRN radio.
