CRAWFORD RACING UNDER THE LIGHTS AT IRP

Round Sixteen of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series returns to Indianapolis Raceway Park for the third time. The Thursday night race is one of the three night races in the Kroeger Speedfest this week at IRP, which lead into to The Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Saturday. The Truck race will run 200 laps over a distance of 137.2 miles, in the traditional two-segment format, and will start 34 Trucks. The mid-summer race will be a one-day show, with the NASCAR haulers coming in at 6 am, setting up right in pit lane (no NASCAR 'Garage' here,) with practice mid-day, qualifying at 7pm and moving right into the race at 8:30 pm Indiana time.

IRP is a .686-mile paved oval with varied degrees of banking - six degrees in Turn One, eight degrees in Turn Two, seven degrees in Turns Three and Four, with three degrees on the front straight and two degrees on the back straight - both of which are nearly 700 feet long.

RICK CRAWFORD celebrated his birthday last weekend in Kansas. He turned the third-fastest race lap in last weekend's Lund Look 75 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Heartland Park Topeka on Lap 44 in his charge to take over the lead. Crawford led 16 of the 81 laps (21% of the race-one of seven drivers for nine lead changes,) giving up the lead only when his crew signaled him with the pit board to pit for a splash and go. Despite lost radio communications and the brutal Kansas heat, Crawford was able to charge back up through the pack to finish eighth in a field of 34 trucks on the 2.1-mile road course. Crawford is the top-running independent privateer in the series.

RICK CRAWFORD remains in second place in the Cintas Rookie Point Standings with 155 points, closing in on the leader with a scant eight points separating them going into their next, just race four days after Kansas. Crawford has been second of 22 drivers in the Cintas field all season. He has one top-five and six top-ten finishes so far with 14 of the 26 finishes counting for the Cintas award.

RICK CRAWFORD moved back up to 11th in the Points Standings, out of 120 Drivers in the 1997 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Driver Standings, with 1862 points.

RICK CRAWFORD is eleventh in winnings, earning $150,325 so far this season.

RICK CRAWFORD is ninth in the Standings of Miles Run with Driver, Miles Run and Maximum Possible number of Miles Run...2159.610 out of 2349.208.

While in Indianapolis, RICK CRAWFORD will visit the Children's Wards at Methodist Hospital Wednesday evening, as part of a project instituted by CARA - Championship Auto Racing Auxiliary. He will also participated Tuesday evening in the Ford Fan Appreciation activities.
