Race: VIRGINIA IS FOR LOVERS 200 Day/Date: Thursday, September 10, 1998 Time: 8:00 p.m. EDT TV/Radio: ESPN2/NTN
The No. 52 Purolator PureONE race team will begin their second two-race trek in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. The team travels to Richmond International Raceway for their race on Thursday, and from there the team will travel directly to Memphis Motorsports Park on Friday for the race on Sunday. The demanding schedule is hard on teams and equipment, but Ken Schrader Racing takes it all in stride. Schrader has been known to race more than three or four events in a week all over the country. This past Labor Day weekend, Schrader raced on Saturday in the NASCAR Busch Series, Sunday in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series and Monday in the Los Angeles street race.
Mike Wallace will pilot the same truck this year at Richmond International Raceway that his team owner, Ken Schrader, drove last year in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck series VIRGINIA IS FOR LOVERS 200 at RIR, where he finished in the top 10. This truck has previously raced this season in Monroe, Wash., Bristol, Tenn., Indianapolis, Ind., and Nashville, Tenn., collecting three top-five finishes and running second at IRP before they had engine failure.
"I really enjoy racing at Richmond," said Wallace. "We run well here, in fact last year we were running in the top 10 when we had some brake problems. It is just fun to race here because it is at night and the fans are excited, plus being in conjunction with a Busch Series and a Winston Cup race, we will have more fans in the stands."
