MIKE BLISS
NO. 16 IWX MOTOR FREIGHT CHEVY RACE DATE: Friday, September 5, 2002 TRACK: Richmond International Raceway DIVISION: NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series STARTED: 2nd (21.934 seconds, 123.097mph) FINISHED: 3rd PTS. POSITION: 1st (44 in front of second)

RACE RECAP -
Mike Bliss started second and stayed in the Top-5 until the second round of pit stops when he headed to pit road for four tires, chassis adjustments and fuel on Lap 102. The early pit strategy pushed Bliss down to 16th in the running order but allowed him to cycle to the front when the leaders pitted later in the race. The third-place finish allowed Bliss to increase his lead over Terry Cook to XX in the 2002 NCTS championship chase.

BLISS POST-RACE QUOTES -

On the pit strategy
We knew exactly what we wanted to do. We couldn't stop as early at Tony Stewart did, we had to go a couple of more laps to get into our pit cycle. It was a good call by this Xpress Motorsports crew to come in when we did and get track position at the end of the race.

On how his truck performed
The IWX Chevy was real good on the outside groove, it just wasn't real good on the bottom. I saw Harvick come up through there and he's hungry to win, so was Stewart. I want to win a championship, so I figured 'you boys go ahead.'

On gaining in the points
This was a good points night for us. Everyone is counting points right now and every one that you can gain is special now. I've never had too much luck at Richmond before, so to get out of here with a Top-3 is exactly what we needed.
