Small fights off early race miscue to finish 24th at Richmond.

Henrico County, VA: Jason Small fought off early adversity and managed to keep the Sunbelt Rentals/Lucas Oil Chevy out of the numerous accidents over the course of the race to finish 24th in the Virginia is for Lovers 200 at Richmond International Raceway.

Small took the green flag from 32nd position and planned on staying out of trouble, looking to gain experience on the fast, tricky 0.750-mile layout. However, shortly after the race started, Small already had a problem hearing his spotter and crew on the two-way radio.

"The radios were cutting in and out, and this is not a place you don't want to be able to hear your spotter," Small said. "That first yellow came out, and it was just what we needed. NASCAR had us all bunch up and we were just idling around out there. I looked down for a second to jiggle the wiring on the radio, and when I looked up, the #03 was just stopped right in front of me. I got into him pretty hard and really dinged up the nose pretty bad."

While the damage left the team with a wounded truck, Small and the team stayed on track and kept to their original game plan.

"After the incident, we just stayed out of trouble and hoped to pick up as many positions as we could. We went from 35th right after it happened to 24th. This team just won't give up. We have had a few rookie moments this season, but they come back strong. We didn't get the finish we were expecting tonight, but we finished as well as we did because they never gave up."

Small and the Sunbelt Rentals/Lucas Oil Chevrolet return to action Friday, September 13th at the Texas Motor Speedway for the Silverado 350. The race will be televised on ESPN2 at 11:30 pm ET, and heard live on XM Satellite Radio and MRN Radio affiliates nationwide at 9:00 pm ET.
