BAKERSFIELD, CA (March 19, 2001) -- The #55 Powers Motorsports/ Craftsman Truck Team struggled through a tough weekend at Mesa Marin Raceway, Bakersfield Ca.

A clutch and throwout bearing failure in the morning practice side lined the #55 truck most of the day.  Repairs were made in time for the final practice session Friday night, and driver Tom Powers was finally able to shake down the truck before Saturday's 4 PM event.

Starting the race in 36th position because of no qualifying run, Tom was able to keep the truck out of trouble and survive the first 4 of 15 cautions. On lap 87 Tom got into trouble on the front stretch and damaged the nose of the #55 Three laps later, the drive belt for the oil pump came off and put him out of the race.

"We were just trying to stay out of everyone's way and keep out of trouble out there," said Tom after the race. "We were hoping to survive some of the attrition and pick up a few more points going into Martinsville."

The 4th of 24 NASCAR Craftsman Truck events is Martinsville, Va., April 7th.
