Countdown at 4 days to the NASCAR Tripleheader at PPIR ... FOUNTAIN, Colo. - Defending NASCAR Truck Series champion Jack Sprague, trussed up with ace bandages and a rib belt, won $42,775 with his second NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series victory this year in the No Fear Challenge Saturday at California Speedway in Fontana.
Sprague heads to Colorado for Saturday’s Tempus Resorts 300K at Pikes Peak International Raceway a little richer and a lot more sore.
He crashed in practice for the NASCAR Busch Series Grand National race on Friday, which left him with three bruised ribs on his left side. But despite searing heat that exceeded the 100-degree mark, Sprague declined a relief driver during the 200-lap race.
"This is the first week with my new sponsor, GMAC, and I'm really happy for them," Sprague said following his 10th career victory.
The sixteen lead changes was one shy of the all-time NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series record. Twenty-three trucks finished on the lead lap; 28 of the starters finished the race and of the eight DNFs, two were for transmission and six were for engines. We got us a convoy ... GREAT PHOTO OP!
