After qualifying second and being one of the dominant trucks this past weekend at Michigan International Speedway (MIS), Piquet Jr. went on to claim his first career win in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS).
When Piquet Jr. went for a spin while racing hard for the lead on lap 56, the No. 30 team was forced to gamble with pit strategy. He became the first Brazilian to ever win in the NCWTS, and the second born outside of the United States.
Piquet Jr. will be competing in both the NCWTS and the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) events this week at Bristol Motor Speedway. The 27-year-old Brazilian will be coming off wins in both series, as he dominated his last race in NNS at Road America, claiming the pole, track record and the win. Bristol is a favorite track of Piquet Jr. as he captured his first stock-car win there earlier this season in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race.
Nelson Piquet Jr. on returning to Bristol Motor Speedway: "Last weekend in Michigan was a dream come true for me. I couldn't be more proud of my team, and I'm hoping to get them another win this Wednesday night. I really enjoy racing at Bristol Motor Speedway, it's a driver's track, it's very short, and very challenging. Bristol is also my crew chief Chris Carrier's home track, so I'm hoping we can get him to victory lane. Two wins in a row would be amazing."
