David Starr Set to Challenge Valley of the Sun Track
Set to challenge the popular Valley of the Sun track, David Starr and Spears Motorsports are ready to add their name to the list of winners at Phoenix International Raceway, November 5, when the Chevy Silverado 150, Round 23 of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series gets underway.
"I've always like going to the desert," says Starr. "It is one of those fun places to visit and it especially fun to race there. This will be the 14th time the Craftsman Truck Series has run at the Phoenix track and Chevrolet has taken top honors nine times. This year, nothing would please me more than to be the one to bring home the Checkered for Chevrolet."
Currently ranked in 8th place in the point standings, this popular Houston native has every intention of moving back up. "We lost some ground at Martinsville when the hose to our brake caliper broke," he explains. "But we only fell a few points and strong finish at PIR will spiral us right back up. "Martinsville was just one of those things and no one is to blame. It just happened and we are ready to gain the ground we lost."
Piloting the No. 75 Spears Chevrolet, Starr, who took his first win of the season at St. Louis, is definitely in the hunt for another victory. "Phoenix is a truly fun place to race," he says with a smile. The track design is different than any other track we compete on. You can run two wide but you need to have a good handling truck and lots of horsepower. We have both in our Spears Chevy Silverado and our Hutter engine power. Unlike some of the races this year, Phoenix allows us a 'Happy Hour" which give us that all-important extra time to make final changes after qualifying.
This will be the fourth time, I have actually run on this track. Our best finish so far is a 6th and we plan to rectify that this weekend. Running on the same weekend as Cup and Busch brings out tons of fans and that makes the racing even more electrifying for the drivers and the crews. It definitely tends to give you an extra special incentive. When the Green Flag signals the start, we will be ready to go."
Qualifying for the Chevy Silverado 150 will take place on Wednesday, November 3 at 3:00 PM (PT) and race action will get underway on Friday, November 5 at 3:30 PM (PT).
