Kaz Grala made an early exit from the fred’s 250 — and consequently an early exit from the Camping World Truck Series playoffs as well.
Grala was forced to start from the back of the field for the Round of 8 elimination race at Talladega Superspeedway after his engine failed in qualifying.
But the driver of the No. 33 GMS Racing Chevy, who entered the weekend seventh in the standings, finished 29th after a chain-reaction wreck in Turn 4 sidelined Grala after 18 laps.
“I’m not quite sure what happened,” Grala said. “Everything checked up in front of me. I slowed down. I think I was going to miss it, but the truck behind me didn’t get slowed down fast enough and turned us up into the wall and ended our day.
“I think that’s the end of our championship hopes, unfortunately. It’s tough to take, because I think we really came alive this latter part of the season. I think we could have been a contender.”
Grala was evaluated and released from the infield care center.
