Mopar Mountain Madness staged to set scene for NHRA sport compact racers next weekend
Final preparations are currently being made to make Mopar Mountain Madness one of the highlights of the NHRA Summit Sport Compact drag racing series season.
Mopar signed on to be the title sponsor of the inaugural Mopar Mountain Madness event, which is scheduled next weekend (June 12-13) at picturesque Bandimere Speedway near Denver, Colo.
Team Mopar drivers Shaun Carlson, Mike Crawford and Scott Mohler plan to carry the Mopar banner high and hope to bring home a "Wally" victory trophy or three.
This event marks a new era in the relationship between Mopar and Bandimere Speedway, which has hosted the Mopar Mile-High Nationals NHRA POWERade series event since 1989. The Mopar Mile-High Nationals this year are scheduled for July 16-18.
Said Jeff Sipes, event coordinator at Bandimere Speedway: "Our dedication to hosting racer-friendly events goes back 46 years, when John Bandimere, Sr. opened the facility to allow youth a place to race in a safe environment. Events like this, with the support of Mopar and the NHRA, continue to emphasize our commitment to safe, yet fun celebrations of the automobile and speed. We thank Mopar for their dedication to this event, and look forward to a relationship as successful as the Mopar Mile-High Nationals in the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series that has existed since 1989."
Tickets for Mopar Mountain Madness are still available. Visit Bandimere's Web site or call (800) 664-UWIN. In addition to drag racing action, the festival will include an all sport compact car show, music, entertainment and a bikini contest. Jillian's, a nearby billiard-themed restaurant, will host a party Saturday evening after qualifying for competitors and spectators that is sure to mark another weekend highlight.
"Bandimere Speedway is excited to partner with Mopar and the NHRA to create one of the finest sport compact events in the country," said Jeff Sipes, event coordinator at Bandimere Speedway.
"Combining the expertise and enthusiasm of Mopar to be involved in Denver for another NHRA National Event, our experience hosting these large and successful events, and the incredible showcase the NHRA has developed in their Summit Sport Compact Series will make this the event one that every racer, spectator, and manufacturer will want to be a part of."
Ted Musgrave and the Ultra Motorsports team will grid the No. 1 Mopar Dodge Ram into the 10th starting position in today's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event at Dover International Speedway.
Musgrave is the only defending event champion in the starting lineup; he piloted the Mopar Dodge Ram into Victory Lane in 2002. Check out moparspeed.com on Monday for exclusive coverage of Musgrave's performance.
