CHARLOTTE, N.C., (May 10, 2000) -- Mike Wallace continued his string of consistent finishes with a seventh place finish at Gateway (Mo.) International Raceway in front of the hometown St. Louis crowd.

The team's top-10 was overshadowed by Jack Sprague's domination of the event on the 1.25-mile oval. The two-time NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion led all but 15 laps of the 160 lap event.

"This weekend's performance was sub-par," Wallace said. "We weren't handling well at all and our lack of performance showed that. We're so used to top-fives that anything less is really unacceptable to us.

"I think in qualifying I went too hard into turns one and two and messed that up. We just couldn't get the truck hooked up and Sprague's team could. It wasn't our weekend but at least we kept the points lead."

Mother's Day weekend doesn't stop the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series from making their visit to Memphis (Tenn.) Motorsports Park for the Memphis 200. Mike Wallace and Team ASE are determined to increase their points lead this weekend with a solid performance.

"We should be good this weekend," Wallace said. "This track is like most we go to. Good acceleration off the corners and good pit stops will determine what kind of track position we maintain. Our goal is, and will continue to be, a top-five finishes if we want to win the Truck Series championship.

"With (Jack) Sprague coming on strong in second, we'll need a first or second to stay ahead. This team is ready for this race. The guys put the truck on the chassis dyno and worked real hard to rebound from last weekend."

With his seventh place finish at Gateway (Mo.) International Raceway, Wallace continues to lead the points with Sprague, who's only 60 points back, taking the second position from Andy Houston.
