DENNIS SETZER WINS NASCAR CRAFTSMAN TRUCK PARAMOUNT HEALTH INSURANCE 200 AT MIS
BROOKLYN, Mich. - Dennis Setzer saved his best for last while, at the same time, it couldn't have been any worse for Ted Musgrave today in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Paramount Health Insurance 200 at Michigan International Speedway.
On the restart following a caution period with two laps remaining, Setzer led with Musgrave second, but only for a few seconds. Musgrave's engine expired and Setzer went on to his 13th career win and his best finish at MIS in nine starts.
"I really didn't even know Ted had blown up until I got down to the end of the straightaway on the restart," Setzer said. "My spotter told me. I hadn't even looked into my mirror. I knew I was just going to go through the center of the corner in one and two. I've never been in anything that strong through the corners."
It was the first Craftsman Truck Series victory for Chevrolet at MIS.
Kyle Busch, in another Chevy, came on to finish second after suffering a cut tire early in the race that forced an unscheduled pit stop. Dodge driver Bobby Hamilton was credited with a third-place finish with Kevin Harvick, in another Chevy, fourth.
"I wish that caution didn't come out there at the end (lap 93 of the 100-lap race)," Busch said. "I think we would have had something for Dennis there, but congratulations to those guys. They deserved it."
Musgrave said he had a plan, too, to run down Setzer. But his engine had a plan of its own.
"We put ourselves in position to win,'' added Musgrave, who relinquished the points lead to Hamilton with Setzer second. "I was going to mess him (Setzer) up on the last lap down the backstretch. I'd been playing cat and mouse with him. I had a plan, but I don't know if it was going to work or not.
"I'm not saying I was going to win the race, but I was going to make it awful tough for him to win it, but you can't win if the motor isn't running."
