July 21, 2000 Michigan Speedway Brooklyn, MI (July 21, 2000) - Ford F-150's qualified well, taking five of the top ten qualifying spots. Greg Biffle was second, with Mike Wallace close behind in third. Roush teammate Kurt Busch was fourth. Rick Crawford in the #14 qualified ninth, taking his 6th top-ten qualifying effort in a row and ninth out of the last eleven races.

GREG BIFFLE #50 Grainger Ford F-150- (Qualified 2nd)-"The truck was really good. It was the best lap that the Grainger Ford had and it was the best lap that we had turned all weekend. We got a little bit of help there in practice and ran a 40.69. The engine ran great and the aero guys have really done a great job with it. We're real happy to sit on the front row."

Post Qualifying Press Conference

WERE YOU SURPRISED THAT THE TRACK WAS SO FAST FOR QUALIFYING?
"I was a little surprised at the track. I thought that the pole would be a 40.75 or 40.8. I guess that's about what Mike and I ran. I thought it would be slowing down and it didn't. The cloud cover and the cool conditions didn't really seem to make much difference. The track was only 8 degrees warmer than it was this morning so we knew it was going to be fast.

YOU LIVE IN THE AREA, ARE YOU STAYING AT HOME THIS WEEK?
"Yeah. I think that the closest hotel available is right about where I live anyway. I think that it a little bit comforting to sleep at home. I didn't sleep that much last night. Somebody gave me one of those energy drinks and I drank it at about five o'clock. When I got home all I could do is lay there and stare at the ceiling. Everyone usually gets to do it once a year and it's kind of nice. The guys have to drive in from the shop. It's about an hour and forty-five minutes and I feel bad for them."

DID YOU SAY THAT ON YOUR QUALIFYING RUN YOU NEVER LIFTED AT ALL?
"No, I didn't lift at all. It was flat to the floor the entire lap. I didn't drag the brake or anything. That's as fast as it would go."

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS RACETRACK?
"It will be a really good race here this year. If the conditions stay like this, it will be unbelievable. This track is similar to Daytona in that the straightaway's are really long and the trucks really draft down. You can really disrupt the air on the truck behind you if you pull down. Daytona is really it's own animal, but there is a lot of similarities between here and there."

MIKE WALLACE #02 Team ASE/Ultra Wheels Ford F-150-(Qualified 3rd)-"Yeah, that's pretty good. We'll have to see what that #50 does though. There are still a few trucks that are fast and could outrun us. Whatever happens, that is a the best that the Team ASE Ford F-150 has run all weekend so we'll just have to see where it stacks up."

DID YOU LIFT GOING AROUND ON YOUR QUALIFYING LAP?
"Oh yeah. Those guys are braver than I am and I'm older than them. Mine was just a good run. I probably just rolled up on the gas to about 80% to try and make sure that the front stuck. I was just a little bit tight and sometimes when you try to run wide open and you are tight you actually slow up. I was just hoping that the front wheels would catch. I was really happy with my entire run. I legitimately ran a 41.2 in practice this morning, so if I ran anything faster than that I was going to be content and we ran a .79 so that's great. My hat's off to the entire crew. The motor guys at Penske build us a great engine. We have just got to get the truck freed up a little bit for racing and we will be just fine."

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS TRACK FOR RACING?
"I think that the track is great. Greg Biffle won here last year and I thought it was a great race. I didn't finish all that well. This racetrack is very conducive to three and four wide racing, maybe five but we don't want to see that. If we have a racetrack tomorrow like we have today, the race will be awesome. The trucks really grip good here and the track has been really good all weekend. I think that you are going to see some really good racing this weekend here at Michigan."

KURT BUSCH
#99 Exide Batteries Ford F-150-(Qualified 4th)-"It seemed if as I was on the floor all the way around. What else can you do? It needs to be a little bit freer to take advantage of the cloud cover but it was a good lap, I'm pretty happy with it."

RICK CRAWFORD
#14 Milwaukee Electric Tools Ford F-150-(Qualified 9th)- "It wasn't a bad lap for the Milwaukee Electric Tools/ Circle Bar Motel & RV Park Ford F-150. The truck really wasn't that bad and I thought that we'd gone a little quicker. Mike Cheek and the boys will get together and make it right in Happy Hour tonight, so we'll be ready to race hard tomorrow."

ROB MORGAN
#46 Acxiom/AbiliTec Ford F-150-(Qualified 6th)-"It was pretty good. It was just a little loose in the center but not enough to complain about. I didn't think that the time would stand. I was looking for a 40.7 or 40.8. The truck was good; we did all we could do. Now we just need to get ready to go out and race."

RICK CARELLI
#66 Carlin Burners & Controls Ford F-150-(Qualified 18th)-"I'm a little disappointed. I thought we had more than that in it. The truck was a little tight but not real bad. I think that we have a good truck on long runs so we should be good in the race."
