Phil Bonifield to make 50th start at Memphis Motorsports Park
(Concord, N.C.) - Team Racing's Phil Bonifield will make his 50th NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series start this weekend's O'Reilly 200 at the Memphis Motorsports Park. The Napa, Calif. native has been a fixture in the series since 1996 as an owner before making his first start as a driver at Evergreen Speedway in 1999. Bonifield has run a limited schedule each year and has fielded a three-truck team since the mid-2001 season.
"This weekend will be really special," said Bonifield, who will drive the familiar No. 23 Red Line Synthetic Oil Chevrolet Silverado. "I have been running a part-time schedule every year since 1999. I started my first event at Evergreen Speedway with the same truck number and sponsor that I will have this weekend. Red Line Synthetic Oil has been a tremendous supporter for my driving career in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Today Team Racing runs three truck teams and each uses Red Line Synthetic Oil to perform on the track."
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will celebrate its 200th event at Memphis Motorsports Park. Bonifield may not have started the first event at Phoenix International Raceway in the inaugural 1995 season, however, he has maintained a presence in the series with the same sponsor.
Red Line Synthetic Oil has sponsored Bonifield's racing career since 1987 when Bonifield raced go-karts in Northern and Southern California against the likes of Casey Mears and Kevin Harvick. Bonifield started his own truck team in 1996 with Red Line Synthetic Oil as primary sponsor and has had a host of drivers including Bill Lester and David Starr compete in a Team Racing truck over the past seven years.
"To have my 50th start the same day the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series has its 200th race makes this weekend memorable," said Bonifield, whose best career finish is a 24th at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and California Speedway in 2001. "I have had many supporters and associate sponsors along the way. Meguiar's, Lane Automotive and Gavel Auction are some of the sponsors we have on board for this year. Without our sponsors, Team Racing would not exist."
Bonifield has one start at the Memphis Motorsports Park, finishing 34th in last year's event. This year Bonifield has made four starts in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series with a best finish of 28th two weeks ago at Texas Motor Speedway.
Team Racing competes in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series with a host of drivers including Jamie Aube, T.J. Bell, Wayne Edwards and Phil Bonifield. Bonifield competes in the NASCAR Busch Series for Team Racing in the No. 90 Red Line Synthetic Oil Chevrolet Monte Carlo.
