Hamilton discusses pole position, pit crew changes

Seventh Isn't All Bad: When Square D driver Bobby Hamilton crossed the finish line in Texas two weeks ago, his team hung their heads, but Hamilton had nothing but praise to give. "Our team looked pretty beat up after that race was over, but I think we have a lot of things to be happy about right now. We have completed and led laps in every race. Since Daytona we have not put a single scratch on our trucks. We extended our points lead after last weekend, and that is the bigger picture. Yes, I think there is room for improvement, but there always is unless you are winning every weekend. We should just focus on the positive. It's great that my team is disappointed with a top 10. We are competitive and want to be on top in every category. I just keep saying what mama always said, 'There will be days like this,' and we are waiting on our fair share. For now we will just take the good and try to avoid the bad as best as we can."

Pit Crew Changes: "I made some changes around our shop last week that I think is going to be better for our organization. At the beginning of the year, we put guys together that we thought would click and after going through several races we looked at who might click better with each other. There was nothing wrong with who we had where, we just want to be better in every avenue we can. So far it's been good, but we are planning on testing tomorrow in Nashville to make sure that the new teams are on the right track."

Pole Winner: Qualifying for the last two races was canceled due to inclement weather granting Hamilton the pole starting position. This week Hamilton hopes to drive his way to the top starting spot. "I've done it before (2000) in Memphis and would love to do it again. Of course I would, who wouldn't want the pole? But I have a little saying, 'It doesn't pay to get the pole.' I mean that literally and mentally. The race winner gets paid the most, not the pole winner, and getting the pole means you are the first one to get passed. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not trying to be greedy I would take it if I get it for sure."

Notes:

* Hamilton is the only driver to have led in all seven races this year.

Square D, Bobby Hamilton Stand up Craze: Bobby Hamilton didn't realize until last week that his cardboard stand ups had created such a stir among one of Square D's distributors. During a meeting Hamilton was told about a customer that had gone into a Square D office late at night. The woman was startled as she turned the corner and ran into Hamilton's standup. She screamed and called security. When security arrived and turned on the lights, she realized it was only a cardboard rendition of the No. 4 Square D driver. That is when she proceeded to kick and hit Hamilton's look-alike repeatedly. "Man I'd be afraid to run into her in a back alley somewhere. She might think I'm that stand up and start at me again," Hamilton said jokingly.
