Martinsville, VA---Randy Russell and Larry Gibson will be honored for their service to NAPA Auto Parts at the NAPA 250 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race on Saturday, April 8 at Martinsville Speedway. Russell will be the Grand Marshal for the race and will give the command "Gentlemen Start Your Engines!" while Gibson will be the Honorary Starter and will wave the green flag to get the event under way, It comes as no surprise that Russell became a NAPA Auto Parts store manager since it is in his blood. While growing up, the NAPA name was a common word in his house. His father worked for NAPA for 18 years and in 1973 Russell went to work part-time for his hometown NAPA Auto Parts store. After graduating from high school in 1975, Russell became a full-time driver for NAPA. Over the years Randy worked his way up the ladder and moved from store to store until 1992 when he opened the Kernersville, NC NAPA Auto Parts store as an assistant manager. After five years and a promotion to store manager, Randy left to go to the Thomasville NAPA Auto Parts store where he has been for the last three years. The father of two girls, Russell says, “NAPA’s benefits are great, they are a great bunch of people and they provide a great place to work.” By the age of ten, Gibson was spending all of his spare time in his father ’s service station. He worked for him every weekend and summer until finishing school. The father and son team worked side by side for years and saw the service station go through numerous changes. In 1996 the two became partners. Larry says, “Having to find and fix a problem with a car is like a puzzle and that’s what I enjoy most about the business.” He and his father have always bought many of their parts from NAPA and in 1998 they decided to take full advantage of the NAPA name by becoming an official NAPA AutoCare Center. Just in the last year, Larry has bought his father out and now calls Gibson Auto and Tire Center his own. He has a son and a daughter. The big weekend kicks off on Friday, April 7 with qualifying for the NAPA 250 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at 1:40 p.m. followed by pole day qualifying for the Goody's Body Pain 500 at 3 p.m. Second round Winston Cup time trials will be held at 12:30 on Saturday with the NAPA 250 starting at 2 p.m. The Goody's Body Pain 500 starts at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 9 and tickets range from $40 to $70.
