Chad On Martinsville:
Chad is coming off his best run of the season -- a 7th place finish at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. The No. 30 Toyota was a dominant truck throughout the event as Chad steered to the 7th place finish.
"Martinsville is a tough little track but it is one that for some reason I have become pretty decent at. I ran the Cup race there last fall and any time you can get extra laps around a track like Martinsville it is a big help -- especially at the Cup level. It is a track where you definitely need to keep your nose clean and stay out of trouble and that is easier said than done at this place. I know we will have a good truck again this week and we just need keep our heads about what we are doing and we will be in good shape. We still need to focus on making this race as there will be a lot of good trucks (including us) battling for those last six starting spots -- hopefully this is that last week we have to worry about all of this."
Chad On NASCAR's New Qualifying Procedure:
"As a team not in the top 30 points here at the beginning of the season (based on the final 2004 points), it has made for a tough start to the season. Fortunately, this Germain/Arnold Racing team is very talented and we get tremendous support from TRD. Also, my experience with these trucks and at these tracks has been very helpful. For a new team and driver in the series, like my teammate (Shige), this new system has made it difficult in making these races and learning the truck and tracks at the same time."
"We had not planned on testing at Martinsville for the next race but after hearing some of the guys who will be there fighting for the last six spots in the field we felt that it was the smart thing to do and we tested there a few weeks ago. That will hopefully help us get into the race safely -- it will be tough with the all of the talented teams and drivers that will be fighting for those spots. After Martinsville, we will go with the current year's points and if all goes well we will be in good shape and hopefully out of the woods for the rest of the season."
Career at Martinsville:
Chad will be making his sixth career start at the paper-clip shaped oval of the Martinsville Speedway. He has three career top ten starts with a best of second in this race last year. His career best finish is 10th -- also in the spring race past year at Martinsville. Chad also has made one Nextel Cup Series start at the track in the fall last year where he impressed many with his qualification into the field on time in his Cup debut.
