Chad On Mansfield:
Chad is coming off his third consecutive top ten finish after coming home ninth at the Gateway International Raceway event two weeks ago.
"This No. 30 team has just been awesome this season and the last three races we have produced solid finishes. We have some positive momentum going here and we look to keep it going this week in Mansfield. The race at Mansfield has quickly become a big event and I have heard that this year is going to be even bigger. We had one of the fastest trucks there last year in the practice sessions but we had some bad luck in the race and got caught up in someone else's mess. I expect us to be strong again this year with our Toyota Tundra and at a short track like this it is important to qualify well and be up towards the front. Hopefully we can stay out of any trouble and give ourselves a chance at the end to bring home a victory."
Racing In Owners Backyard:
You always want to keep your boss happy and that will be more so on the agenda for Chad Chaffin this week. The co-owners of Chad's No. 30 Toyota, the Germain's, are from the Columbus, Ohio area -- about an hour from the track in Mansfield. Chad will spend a few days of quality time with the Germain family as well as taking part in a "Truck Time" promotion with the Germain Toyota dealership in the Columbus area. As part of the promotion Chad and his teammate, Shige Hattori, will appear at the dealership on Thursday from 4:00 -- 7:00 p.m. along with their respective trucks and transporters as they sign autographs and greet customers and fans.
"This week is big for various reasons," said Chad. "We are racing on the home turf of our owners and we definitely want to put on a good show for them and the fans in the Columbus area. We have a lot of things planned and I look forward to spending some quality time with the Germain folks this week -- plus it sounds like we will get the chance to play a little golf with the boss as well."
Career at Mansfield:
As the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series makes its second visit to the bullring of the Mansfield Motorsports Speedway, Chad will join in making his second visit as well. His promising weekend last year was dampened by on track troubles as he came home with a 31st place finish -- which turned out to be his worst finish of the 2004 season.
