Kroger 225 August 22-23, 1998 Louisville, Kentucky
* It is back to the beginning for Scot Walters, driver of the No. 37 Red Man/Brewco Motorsports Chevrolet truck. Walters is returning home to the track that launched his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series career.
One year ago, Walters strapped into the Red Man Truck and showed the world what he could do. On that day he rubbed fenders with some of the best drivers that the Craftsman Truck Series hand to offer, and in doing so completed a boyhood dream of racing in the big leagues.
Walters' dream began years ago, when he was growing up in Louisville, Kentucky, watching races on Saturdays and Sundays from the comfort of his parent's home. His dream began to become reality in 1988 when he competed in his first race at the new Louisville Motor Speedway.
From that modest beginning he honed his driving talents at many of the tracks in the area, and in 1991 began his career in the NASCAR Slim Jim All Pro Series. Over the next few years he made a name for himself by winning races and the Rookie of the Year title in 1993. That was how he caught the eye of Clarence Brewer Jr. (Owner of Brewco Motorsports) and as they say the rest is history.
"It was a dream come true last year," said Walters. "Now this year I hope to make another dream come true. To win at home in a NASCAR Craftsman Truck. I think we have the team to do it to. Over the last two races the Red Man team has been running great and the guys are work harder than ever." * Scot Walters and the Red Man/Brewco Motorsports team participated in a Chevrolet test on August 12th at the newly paved Louisville Motor Speedway.
"The surface is good," said Walters. "But it is still Louisville. The new paving has not changed a whole lot about the track. It has just made it much faster. I think it will make for some very close racing as usual.
* After recording a 13th place finish in the Lund Look 275k race, in Topeka, Kansas, Scot Walters and the Red Man team moved into the top10 in miles completed. Walters has completed 2764.560 miles of a possible 3052.748 miles or 90.5%.
* Sav-A-Step Convenience Stores is the associate sponsor on the No. 37 Red Man Chevrolet for the Kroger 225 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Louisville Motor Speedway in Louisville, Kentucky. The chain operates 28 stores in Southern Indiana and Northern Kentucky.
