MOORESVILLE, NC (September 14, 2004) -- Shane Hmiel heads to New Hampshire hoping to capture the pole for Billy Ballew Motorsports in the No. 15 NASCAR Craftsman truck. Hmiel has had two previous starts at New Hampshire International Speedway. In his rookie year in the 2002 NASCAR Busch Series, Hmiel captured the Bud Pole in his first start at Loudon's 'Magic Mile' and led for 61 laps.
"That's a day I will never forget," Hmiel said. "Winning my second pole here in my rookie year was pretty special especially since we led a lot of laps and finished in fourth place. This track is a lot of fun; you can really hustle a car around. I'm excited to see what the trucks will do on this track. Our trucks have been running really well and I'm excited to get up there and take some laps."
The Billy Ballew Motorsports team has been on a streak of good runs and hopes for nothing less for this weekend. Hmiel and the team are bringing one of their favorite trucks to Loudon. The Silverado was built for Bristol where the team finished in the second position and in Richmond where Hmiel was able to pull off a 7th place finish after having handling problems and several stops to the pits.
"I like this truck; we did really well with it in Bristol finishing second," Hmiel said. "Last week at Richmond we were able to bring home a top-10 finish even after gambling on a pit stop to try to beat Musgrave and McMurray that didn't turn in our favor. We were pretty lucky at those two short tracks not having too much damage, just a bit of cosmetic work. I'm sure Ritchie will have this truck where it needs to be when we roll it off the trailer. We are focusing on another consistent run and a finish in the top-5."
Sponsors on the No. 15 Billy Ballew Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado will include Alpharetta Self-Storage, D & D Aviation and Whitaker Farms.
Shane Hmiel and the rest of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series teams will be heading to Loudon for the New Hampshire 200. The race will be broadcast live Saturday, September 18, 2004 on SPEED at 1:00 p.m. and starting at 12:30 p.m. over the MRN Radio Networks.
