HOPING FOR THE PERFECT HAND
Hoping to be dealt the perfect hand that beats the odds, David Starr and the Spears Motorsports crew are eager to hit Las Vegas Motor Speedway for Round 20 of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, Saturday, September 24.
"I love going to Las Vegas," says Starr with a twinkle in his eye. "Not only do I really like the track, but the whole city is exciting, almost magical. It is definitely a fun place. The track also has an extra special meaning to me as it is where I scored my first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Victory and where I earned my first NASCAR West Series win."
Starr and the Spears Motorsports team struggled last weekend at New Hampshire. "Our Spears Chevy Silverado just wasn't right," says Starr obviously disappointed. "Dave McCarty, my crew chief, and everyone on the team worked as hard as they could to get it better and we managed to fight our way back from 30th to 13th, but that just isn't good enough for us., My guys build our Spears Chevy trucks to win and they sure aren't willing to settle for anything less."
Currently ranked in 10th in the point's battle, Starr is definitely hoping to make Las Vegas Motor Speedway the track for his first win of the 2005 season. "We have won here before," he says, "and I can't see any reason why we can't do so again. Racing is very much an up and down business. One day you can be at the top of the point's chase and a few races later, you are way down the ladder. It's tough to take sometimes, but all you can do is try your very best and view each race as a brand new challenge. That's what it is all about. It's the same in all racing arenas. The most important thing is to remain positive and know you are capable of winning. You have to give it your all at every event and never give up."
A one day event, qualifying for the Las Vegas 350 takes place on Saturday, September 24 at 3:00 PM (ET) with race action getting underway at 9:00 PM (ET).
