THIRTY-ONE DRIVERS BEAT KENTUCKY SPEEDWAY NASCAR CRAFTSMAN TRUCK SERIES QUALIFYING RECORD IN OPENING PRACTICE

SPARTA, KY. -- Thirty-one drivers bettered the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Kentucky Speedway qualifying record during a 90-minute practice session for tomorrow's "Built Ford Tough 225 Presented by The Greater Cincinnati Ford Dealers."

Bill Lester led the assault on the record book by turning the quickest lap of the session at 175.615 mph (30.749 seconds) in his No. 22 Waste Management Toyota Tundra. The lap is 5.974 mph faster the 169.641-mph (31.832 seconds) qualifying record lap laid down by driver Jon Wood in 2003.

The effort helps him continue the momentum he gained last week at Kansas Speedway where he took his second career series pole and finished fourth to chart his first top-five and second top-10 finish of the season.

"The truck was running a little tight in the center (of the corner), but we made some wedge and spring adjustments," Lester said. "We got off a good mock qualifying lap. Of course, that's not the one that pays. The one that pays is the Bud Pole tomorrow and we're hoping we can be just as good if not better (in qualifying). We got some good, long runs in. We have a good truck and we're optimistic."

Roush Racing rookie Todd Kluever drove the fastest Ford in the practice session and was third in the session with his best 175.171-mph (30.827 seconds) lap. Jack Sprague fired off the fastest lap for Chevrolet and was fourth quickest in the session with a 174.605-mph (30.927 seconds) lap. Jimmy Spencer led the Dodge camp and closed out the session fifth with a 174.171-mph (31.004 seconds) lap.

Tickets for "The Built Ford Tough 225 Presented by The Greater Cincinnati Ford Dealers" are still available and can be reserved at the main entrance of Kentucky Speedway at Gates 15 and 16 up to race time.

Gates open at noon with the final NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series practice. The USAC Ford Focus Midget Car Series takes to the paved quarter-mile track at 1:30 p.m., NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series qualifying follows at 5:00 p.m., and international recording artist Billy Ray Cyrus takes the WUBE-FM B-105 Country Sound Stage at 6:30 p.m., for an exclusive prerace concert. Drivers will take the green flag for "The Built Ford Tough 225 Presented by The Greater Cincinnati Ford Dealers" at 8:15 p.m.
