YOU HAD A LOT OF MOMENTUM COMING INTO THIS RACE COMING OUT TONIGHT WITH A SECOND PLACE.
"I'm really happy with our K & N Ford tonight. We just really wanted to get the victory for all the local Ford dealers and Ford people that were here this weekend. We really happy with a second place finish and the momentum our team has had over the last five or six races. We've really been running strong, got a couple of wins. I'm happy because I didn't feel like our truck was really all that good tonight. I know the potential of where we should be and we just never really hit on it. At the same time, I'm really happy with second. But disappointed in the overall points battle and that the guy we're chasing led the most laps and kicked our tail.
"I'm disappointed in that, that's the big picture. But it's a good solid top-5. We really hit on a couple of things late in practice yesterday that really got some speed in our truck. We basically didn't have enough time to tune that package and we really hit on it a little late. We started off strong and we tried to make some adjustments during the race. We slowed the truck down; we lost a couple of spots in that second run. Made the adjustments back and we were able to pick them back off in the last run and settle in for second."
HOW TOUGH IS IT TO RACE A GUY, WHEN YOU SEE A TRUCK THAT GOOD, AS GOOD AS THE NO. 5 WAS TONIGHT? WHAT MENTALITY, DO YOU SWITCH INTO POINTS MENTALITY AT SOME POINT IN THE RACE AND SAY WE'RE JUST NOT GOING TO GET THERE, LET'S GO FOR WHAT WE CAN?
"Yes, I knew my only shot would have been on that restart because I saw how strong Mike (Skinner) was on the runs and he could kind of pull away from everybody. And the 77 (Brendan Gaughan), the 30 (Todd Bodine), they were on two tires, I think, or no tires. And the 22 (Ryan Matthews) was up there. And me and Mike (Skinner) were on four, for sure. I able to get under the 5 (Skinner), getting into turn one. I was hoping I could clear it, because that was probably going to my only shot at getting in front of him all night long. I just couldn't quite pull it off."
"Luckily, the 30 (Todd Bodine) and 77 got racing pretty hard and got out of the groove a little bit and I was able to clear those guys. Just trying to head down and run consistent laps because I knew Ted (Musgrave) was strong earlier in the race and I seen him way back there in my mirror and I knew he'd be coming. The crew chief (Mike Beam) was reading me off lap times of what I was doing, and Mike was doing, and Ted was doing. I was trying to be smooth and consistent and protect second place after I realized there was no way that I could catch the 5 (Skinner)."
CAN YOU TALK ABOUT THE TRACK CONDITIONS IN TURNS THREE AND FOUR?
"There was that wreck with the 50 (Peter Shepherd) and the 59 (Terry Cook) coming into the pits, I think they just dropped a bunch of oil down getting to pit road, right in the groove basically, right on the race track. They put oil dry down and blew it off. It's like we needed a couple of laps to work that oil dry in before we actually just blew it off. It was pretty slick down there but I paid attention to it and tried to avoid it. The 5 (Skinner) was in front of me trying to do the same thing. It just took a few laps to work it in, to run it in. Towards the end of the night it wasn't an issue. It was just a little slippery for a little bit and bit a couple guys."
