11th Place Finish For Jon Wood and Wood Brothers Racing at Kentucky Speedway
Sparta, KY (July 19, 2008)-What appeared to be a slow start at Kentucky Speedway for the no. 21 Wood Brothers Racing Barnhill Group Ford F-150 Saturday, July 19th, turned around when the 21 team madetheloose handling truck betterand Jon Wood made quality passes. With Jon's 80 green flag passes, he worked up to the 11th position where he finished the Built Ford Tough 225 as the top running Ford.
Jon took the green flag in the 32nd position after a less than desirable qualifying run on Saturday afternoon that resulted from a loose handling race truck. The loose condition would persist through the first half of the race as the 21 team worked diligently on adjustmentsduring the first three caution flag pit stops of the evening. The adjustments seemed to make an improvement on the handling, but the truck was still on the loose side as Jon made his way up to the 24th position by lap 40.
On lap 53, the caution flag waved once again as several trucks tried to avoid a single wrecking truck ahead. The no. 17 abruptly slowed down in front of the 21. Jon, with nowhere else to go, ran into the back of Peters' machine, consequently leaving a hole in the grill of the no. 21 truck.
Crew Chief John Monsam called Jon into pit after a 10 minute red flag to repair damage to the turn three wall. The swift 21 team pit crew taped the damaged grill and put on fresh tires and fuel. Jon went back to the track in 28th position. As track temperatures dropped throughout the evening, it seemed to work in the Wood Brothers no. 21 Barnhill Group's favor as Jon made his way up to the 20th position on lap 70. The evening began to turn around for the team at the half way mark of the 150 lap event.J The team had one last opportunity to make a pit stop on lap 119 when the yellow flag flew due to a multi-truck wreck. The team decided to make a minor adjustment and sent the no. 21 back to the track in the 10th position. Jon stayed in the 10th position until the no. 33 truck passed on the last lap. Jon took the checkered flag in 11th on lap 150.
The second half of the race proved to be strong for the no. 21 Barnhill Group Ford as Jon was ranked 8th fastest in NASCAR's timing and scoring for "Fastest Late Run" results with an average speed of 166.086 mph.
