Hooper Soldiers to 22nd in Kansas Truck Race

KANSAS CITY, Kansas - Despite fighting an ill-handling truck throughout, Lance Hooper survived to finish 22nd in the O'Reilly Auto Parts 250 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS) event at the Kansas Speedway Saturday, July 3.  Carl Edwards won the race.

Hooper, who started 29th, struggled for speed from the start of the 167-lap race at the 1.5-mile oval.  Despite the difficulties, he raced as high as 19th in the early laps before sagging to 28th by mid-race.

After a series of mid-race pit stops and a trip to the garage to make major chassis changes, Hooper moved consistently forward in the latter stages of the event.

"I have to give a lot of credit to (crew chief) Kevin Cram and all the ThorSport Racing crew guys," Hooper said.  "They never gave up.  It would have been easy to just park it, say it was a bad day and head home.

"But the guys hung in there, on the end of a very long week, and we were able to gain some positions at the end.  Not a great run, but we got all we could out of it at the end."

The performance moved Hooper to 34th in the NCTS driver point standings.  The No. 13 Microtel entry stands 30th in the owners' standings.

The series continues with a July 10 race in Sparta, Ky.
