KANSAS CITY, KS Jason Small, driver of the Sunbelt Rentals Chevrolet, will start 34th in Saturday's O'Reilly Auto Parts 250 at the Kansas Speedway. Small was forced to take a provisional starting position after a crash on his qualifying attempt left the driver of the Sunbelt Rentals Chevrolet without an official qualifying time.
As a result of the crash, the team spent the Happy Hour practice session after qualifying preparing the team's backup truck, one of teammate Bobby Dotter's trucks, for the race. While the team was preparing the truck, Small was checked and released from the infield care center. As the teams were finishing up for the evening, Small started to complain about some lingering pain and was scheduled to return to the care center for a follow up examination.
"We really thought we had a shot to run well here," Small said. "We had worked on getting the truck comfortable and then we learned something in that first practice session. We had to take a little bit different line getting into turn three because of some traffic and it ended up being faster than the line I was using."
"We plan on running the whole race tomorrow," he continued. "If the doctors look me over and find an injury like a cracked rib or there is some lingering soreness, we might go to the alternate plan. We'll have to find a backup driver, but right now I think I should be able to go the distance."
The green flag for the O'Reilly 250 is scheduled to fly shortly after 1 pm ET on Saturday. The race will be broadcast live on ESPN, XM Satellite Radio, and on MRN Radio affiliates nationwide.
