YOU MANAGED TO PICK UP FOURTH TENTHS FROM THIS AFTERNOON'S PRACTICE SESSION. "The Power Stroke Diesel Ford was pretty good in qualifying compared to where we were. The morning practice went really well for us. We kinda tried some stuff in the afternoon practice before qualifying and, man, it was just not working for us. I kinda got frustrated; the truck was real free into the corner and we couldn't seem to get a handle on it. We were really, really upset with the truck and just didn't know what to do. Bob Keselowski made great calls for qualifying and we got it back under control. As fast as the truck felt, I was surprised we didn't go a little bit quicker than what the lap time produced. Nevertheless, we're a lot better than we were. Knowing where we were and where we needed to be, the truck is still is a little bit tight off. That was the first time all day I was able to hold the throttle down and never came off it all the way for a whole two laps. We've got a good truck. We just need to fine-tune it for Happy Hour and I think we will be good for the race."
YOU HAVEN'T HAD THE BEST OF LUCK ON THE MILE-AND-A-HALF TRACKS THIS SEASON. "The win from last week will definitely carry a lot of momentum for the team, and I think we need that because we haven't been as good on the speedways as we'd like to have been. We built a speedway truck and we thought we were going to make the right moves and unfortunately we destroyed that truck in the first lap of practice at Texas. We're kinda back to running the same old deal - a high downforce at a mile-and-a-half track where we really don't want to bring it to. That's the cards we're dealt right now, but I still think we have a pretty good piece. The Power Stroke Ford should be up front all day long."
RICK CRAWFORD-14-Circle Bar Motel & RV Park Ford F-150 (Qualified 5th)
"I just wish it was on the pole; that's what we were going for - a one-lap run. We were going for broke and turned around and didn't do it. I messed up a little bit on the first lap. I drove it down in the corner a little hard and the back end slipped away from me and I had to grab it. So, on the second lap, the engine got to 220 and it killed the horsepower some, so we didn't run as fast as we wanted to. We backed up our practice speed and we'll start as the fastest Ford in Kansas."
THE TRACK SPEEDS HAVE INCREASED FROM LAST YEAR. WHAT DO YOU ATTRIBUTE THAT TO? "I think the track is in better shape. I think Goodyear came here with a softer right-side tire. They were worried about tire temperatures last year, being new pavement, and this year we're really not showing any tire heat, so they came with a little softer tire and that picked up the speed. Plus, our engines are a lot more tuned with the 390 carburetor now. The total package has made for quicker speeds."
RICK BICKLE-15-Dickies Ford F-150 (Qualified 19th)
"For some reason, and this seems to be the second week in a row, but the truck doesn't want to run. It goes down and gets halfway down the straightaway and it starts shutting out. It did it a couple times in practice, like it was running out of fuel. We put gas in it, and it wasn't out, but we put gas in it and went qualifying. We didn't have time to check the pick up. Either the pick up is bad or the fuel pump is going bad and it just won't run on the top end. Plus, we put tape on it and that killed it. This thing needs a new body on it bad."
YOU DIDN'T RACE HERE IN THE BUSCH SERIES LAST YEAR, SO THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THAT YOU'VE TURNED LAP HERE. HOW DIFFICULT IS IT TO GET ACCLIMATED TO THIS TRACK? "This is Atlanta. This is Charlotte and this is Texas. They're all the same thing."
JON WOOD-50-U.S. Navy Racing Ford F-150 (Qualified 17th)
"The truck was terribly loose for two laps out there. We came here, and based off what we did last year, we were looking to beat that this year, so we're disappointed right now. We've been fighting a loose truck every since we unloaded this morning and we just haven't figured it out. We have a lot of work to do before and during Happy Hour today. Hopefully we can turn this weekend around in the hour of practice we have left today."
RANDY BRIGGS-93-Extreme Grafix Ford F-150 (Qualified 34th)
"That was a little bit more excitement than we wanted today. We were hoping just to make it solidly in the race. We had a locker go bad on us. We thought we heard something when we were pushing it up to the line, but we weren't sure. We are definitely sure now that that is what it was. I heard it actually let go on the race track and it almost felt like a tire going down. My inexperience in these trucks may have cost us in qualifying, but we got lucky and we'll start all over tomorrow."
THIS ONLY THE SECOND TRUCK SERIES RACE HERE, BUT YOU HAVE RACED HERE IN OTHER SERIES. "I think my experience here may offset my inexperience in the trucks. I probably took a little bit more of a chance trying to get this thing qualified better. It's easy to say that now because it's over, but I think we were looking around 20th or somewhere in the neighborhood or 20th for qualifying based off of our practice times. We were really pretty good up until that point. Plus, there's little bit of pressure being the hometown driver here. You always want to put on a good show in front of the hometown crowd, especially when you know the stands are going to be filled."
