The entire Dana Racing team is looking forward to the last race of the year in Fontana because they can go for broke and just let it all hang out. With neither of the drivers in Dana trucks in the hunt for the championship, the team can try things on the trucks that are a little risky. Ruttman joined the Dana Racing team midway through the 1999 season so driver points are not a big concern. The NAPA 200 at California Speedway is the sixth race this year that the #4 Dana truck will be a team truck to the #18 Dana entry. For Ruttman it will be the third time this year he will be a teammate to Bobby Hamilton. Ruttman also had a team truck at Heartland Park Topeka when Olivier Beretta drove a second Bobby Hamilton Racing truck.

Joe Ruttman and the Dana Racing team have finished five of the last seven races in the top 10. The only finishes out of the top 10 were at Las Vegas and Richmond where the Dana truck was involved in accidents with other trucks. The Dana team has recorded 12 top 10 finishes in the 24 races to date. Four of the top 10 finishes were with Butch Miller and eight have been with Joe Ruttman.

Joe Ruttman hopes to give himself a late birthday present if he can win the NAPA 200 at California Speedway. Ruttman's 55th birthday is on Thursday October 30th.

Both Joe Ruttman and Bobby Hamilton are scheduled to participate in the open test being run at California Speedway on October 27th. "We're going to have an advantage at the test because both Bobby and I will be there so we can get twice the information," said Ruttman. "It will also give us a chance to role three trucks off and try multiple combinations."

"I've always had a good truck here I just don't seem to get the finishes we are looking for. But I think that is going to change. This team has been on a role over the final few races. We've got five top 10 finishes in the last seven races and had we not got tangled up with other peoples problems we would probably have had two more top 10 finishes."

"I don't get too excited about my birthday. I just treat it like any other day of the year. I guess that's because I always say you're only as young as you feel and I feel like a kid when I'm behind the wheel of a race truck."

"It would be great to win here this week but everyone hopes to do that. The thing is it's a long time between the last race of the season and the start of the next season and it's real important to finish on a high note so the off season goes a little better."
