Jack Sprague stoked for IRP

CLERMONT, IN - #24 Team GMAC driver Jack Sprague has experienced the full range of emotions at Indianapolis Raceway Park, site of Thursday's Power Stroke 200 (ESPN: 8:30 p.m. EDT).

After winning this race in 1998, Sprague endured an engine problem here last year that temporarily threatened his bid for a second NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Championship. The driver of the #24 GMAC Financial Services Chevrolet ultimately overcame that 34th-place finish and rolled to his second NCTS crown in three years.

Sprague, a 35-year-old native of Spring Lake, Mich., ranks third in career NCTS short track victories with eight. He notched two of those wins this year at Memphis and Evergreen, respectively.

This season, the #24 Team GMAC driver has posted a remarkable average finish of 2.0 on the "bullrings"! Additionally, Sprague has registered four top-10 finishes on those tracks during the 2000 campaign.

Sprague, along with Joe Ruttman, is the only driver to have competed in all five previous events at Indianapolis Raceway Park.

Just by virtue of starting Thursday's event, Sprague will become the first NCTS driver to win $100,000 at I.R.P. He currently stands at $92,302.

#24 TEAM GMAC TID BIT: Did you know that Sprague still owns the record for fastest race in NCTS history ??? His victory at California Speedway, in 1998, came at an average speed of 141.884 mph!

"I.R.P. is a tough little track," Sprague said. "You really have to run on top because that's where the groove is. It's almost impossible to make passes on the bottom. It's one of those places where your truck absolutely has to be hooked up if you're going to have a shot at winning the thing."

Added Sprague, "The biggest thing is to be consistent and give yourself a chance. We've struggled a bit here lately, but this team never seems to struggle for too long. We won this race in '98 and that gives me a great dose of confidence heading into Thursday."
