DOVER, DE - Veteran driver Jack Sprague and rookie racer Ricky Hendrick will combine to give GMAC a formidable one-two punch in Friday's MBNA e-commerce.com 200 at Dover Downs International Speedway (tape delayed, ESPN: 8 p.m. EDT).
Items of note include:
This is the first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event to be held at Dover's "Monster Mile." It's the fourth time Sprague has competed at a first-time venue in 2000 (Daytona, Kentucky and Chicago being the others).
Sprague, 36, has competed and fared well at Dover in Busch Grand National competition. His best finish was fourth in Dover's BGN event back in 1994.
Ricky Hendrick joins Sprague this weekend at Dover. Hendrick, 20, has three top-10 finishes in four NCTS starts this season.
Hendrick's highest finish (6th place) came in his NCTS debut at Pikes Peak (May 21).
There will be a total of four GMAC trucks testing at Dover Downs this week with Sprague and Hendrick handling driving chores for two apiece.
Hendrick's truck was just recently completed for competition. Dubbed "Shenandoah," the #17 GMAC Chevrolet Silverado could be a good luck charm for the talented rookie. (MORE)
Sprague continues to compete in his "Ice" truck. The two-time NCTS champion likes this particular #24 GMAC Financial Services Chevrolet Silverado so much, he's turned down opportunities to compete in brand new Silverados this season.
SPRAGUE'S THOUGHTS HEADING INTO FRIDAY'S RACE AT DOVER DOWNS:
"Dover is downright demanding for a driver," Sprague said. "But I'm excited about this challenge. It adds a little bit different flavor to our schedule; kind of like Daytona did to start the season. Somebody's gotta be the first one to visit Victory Lane in a truck here and I figure it might as well be me or Ricky (Hendrick)."
