Chaffin Wins on Last Lap Pass in The Power Stroke Diesel 200 at IRP

INDIANAPOLIS (August 6, 2004) Tonight's Power Stroke Diesel 200 featured classic short track racing as Chad Chaffin was able to make a daring last lap pass of Johnny Sauter to take the win.

"We got to the outside lane and that is usually pretty scary but I knew that was my only shot, we got outside him and rubbed him a little bit but he (Sauter) drove me clean and we got into victory lane."

Sauter was in control most of the night leading 139 of the 200 laps but his tire strategy kept him from holding off Chaffin.

"We had the dominate truck all night long and we should have won the race," said Chaffin after the finish. "We just didn't have the tires to hold him off at the end but that was a voluntary deal, it is just cool to be sitting here talking to all of you."

Local favorite, Tracy Hines ran a strong 9th and was the Raybestos Rookie of year top finisher.

"Last year we had a good run but couldn't make it to half way," stated Hines. "We had a great truck here tonight and if we can't win a race this year I definitely want to win Rookie of the Year."

The racing concludes on Saturday night with the running of the 23rd Annual Kroger 200 NASCAR Busch Series race. Gates open at 11:00 A. M. and the race starts at 7:00 P.M.
