David Starr Excited About New Venue, Any Race for That Matter
*For the second consecutive week, the NASCAR Camping World Series will race at a new venue, this week the 0.875-mile Iowa Speedway. Last week the series made its debut at the 1.5-mile Chicagoland Speedway. David started 17th and finished 22nd.
*David Starr has 65 short track starts in his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series career. He has scored one win (Martinsville, April 2006), ten top-five finishes, 28 top-10 finishes, and one pole (Richmond, September 2005). David has led 327 laps in short track competition during his NCWTS career.
*David sits sixth in the current NCWTS championship standings, just 44 points behind Brian Scott in fifth. Overall David has scored three top-five and nine top-10 finishes in 16 starts so far in 2009.
Have you had a chance to talk to anyone about Iowa Speedway? What are your impressions of the track so far? "Everyone on the team is excited to get out there and get on the track. We all watched the Nationwide race there and it looks like a really exciting place. It's a beautiful track and an amazing facility. I haven't had a chance to talk to anyone about what to expect there but I know my crew chief Jason Miller has. We're looking forward to get out there and get on track and see what it's like in person."
What have you learned about the track from watching other races there? "It looks like it's really smooth and fast, but there are some bumps down into turns one and two, getting into the corner and then over the tunnel through the middle. It's a two groove track which should make for a lot of really good side-by-side racing. It's brand new for us so we'll spend the day Friday learning as much as we can. It's going to take some horsepower and a truck that handles good and can rotate in the center of the corner and had a lot of forward bite off the corner. That's what we're going to work on."
You are always excited about every race on the schedule. Do you get more excited when there's a new venue with a lot of great fans in the seats there to cheer you on? "It's hard to build on our enthusiasm any more because we are excited to go to the track every week and put on a show. I can't wait to get out there and race in front of those fans in Iowa because for a lot of them it will be the first time they've had a chance to see the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race. Once you see one of these Truck races you're hooked for life. But it really doesn't matter to me if there are 100 fans in the stands or 30,000 I am going to be excited about it because I just love to race. I just can't wait to get up there and show off for all of the fans and show them what the best racing in NASCAR is."
