Musgrave Back in Top-10 at Indianapolis; Musgrave now 6th in Championship Standings
Indianapolis, Indiana (August 07, 2006) Ted Musgrave drove the No. 9 Team ASE Toyota to an eight-place finish in Friday night's Power Stroke 200 at O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis. Musgrave qualified 16th and quickly moved forward to battle for a top-10 running position.
After some mid-race cautions scrambled the field and left many on different pit strategies, Musgrave charged from 23rd at the 60-lap mark to an eighth place finish by the time the checkered flag flew. "Both trucks showed they were better than they had been for the past few weeks," Musgrave said. "We aren't just happy with top-10s, we want to get up there and get wins and top-5s. We were off just a little bit, but we made some big gains. To get the Team ASE Toyota back into the top ten after the month that we've had is a big deal." The competition throughout the night was intense throughout the field. With the constant two- and three-wide racing throughout the pack, Musgrave saw lots of action through the front windshield. "We had an on-board camera and I think it got so scared from what it was seeing in front of us it quit working halfway through the race," Musgrave joked. "I had a lot of close calls, but that's how it is here at ORP. Sometimes you're on the giving end and sometimes you're on the receiving end. Sometimes you need to give a little body slam and go on. I gave a little more than I received last time. Everyone is trying to prove themselves and there's only one groove."
Musgrave now sits sixth in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship standings, 252 points behind leader and Germain Racing teammate Todd Bodine. After 15 of 25 races in the 2006 season, Musgrave is just 15 points behind Ron Hornaday for the fifth position.
