ROANOKE, Texas - After making a solid charge from the back of the pack into the top-10, Steve Portenga saw his Texas Motor Speedway debut end with a thud as his Roto-Rooter Chevrolet crashed into the back stretch wall on lap 74 of the O'Reilly Auto Parts 400 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race Friday, June 7. Portenga finished 28th in the race which was won by Brendan Gaughan.

"We're not sure exactly what happened," Portenga said. "I drove under a lapped truck coming off turn two and it just came around. Don't know if we broke and axle or what.

"I hate for Roto-Rooter and all the guys on the team. We struggled to get going here, but we definitely we running well in the race."

Portenga, who started 28th, made a steady charge to the front of the field. He passed seven trucks in the first two laps and moved into the top 20 within the first dozen circuits. He was 12th when a series of green flag pit stops began and ran as high as seventh before coming in for service himself.

The accident ended a run of three consecutive top-15 finishes for Portenga and the Roto-Rooter team.

The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series continues with the O'Reilly Auto Parts 200 at the Memphis Motorsports Park in Millington, Tenn. Saturday, June 2.
