YOU'RE GIVING ADVICE TO A 16-YEAR-OLD THIS WEEKEND. HOW DIFFERENT OF A ROLE IS THIS FOR YOU?

"I wasn't necessarily giving him advice. I was talking to Max (Jones) about what changed, and it was the track. From practice to qualifying it just gets a little bit freer, a little bit faster. You have to tweak the stuff; you can't really dog it. That's the thing I've learned so far. When the track changes, you have to respect the limitations of the truck. I'm made the same mistakes that he has. He was fast in practice and he's going to be fast in the race. He just needs not to beat himself up."

YOU WERE FAST IN PRACTICE AND YOU WERE FAST IN QUALIFYING.

"I didn't think that I was that fast; I was shocked. The key to the truck series on the short tracks is starting up front. When you start up front you can avoid the early wreck, and you'll remain up front."

WHAT HAPPENED?

"I got loose coming off of Turn 2 and had to stay in it to keep my lap going and I just went around." ARE YOU OK? "Yeah, I'm fine."

YOU CRACKED THE THROTTLE A LOT IN TURNS 3 AND 4 ON YOUR FIRST LAP. WAS THAT AN INDICATION THAT THE TRUCK WASN'T HANDLING AS GOOD AS IT WAS IN PRACTICE?

"The first lap it was a little tight, so I decided to bring it up a little harder to free it up, but I guess I brought it up a little too hard and made it a little to free, and just went around."

RICK CRAWFORD-14-Milwaukee Electric Tool Ford F-150

"The Milwaukee Electric Tool Ford has run fast since we unloaded it off the truck. Minor touches and twitches done to it by Ray Stonkus and the crew is all we've done. The Ernie Elliott engine is performing today and it's pleasure to be top-10 racing again.,"

YOU HAVE HAD SOME STRUGGLES WITH QUALIFYING, BUT YOU ALWAYS SEEM TO RACE UP FRONT. DOES THE ONE-DAY FORMAT HELP YOU WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE A LOT OF TIME TO CHANGE SETUPS BETWEEN QUALIFYING AND THE RACE?

"I feel like when we get to a race track and we're prepared, whether it's qualifying or racing, we've been fine. Here lately, I think we have been trying to make up for other things, trying to make the truck do more than it's expected to in the corners. The driver always feels better when you have more confidence."

THIS HAS BECOME YOUR HOME TRACK SINCE MOVING HERE A FEW YEARS AGO.

"I guess it has. This will be my fourth time racing here, but unfortunately, we only get to come here once a year and we don't get any test dates. It's a one-day show, a hurry-up thing, and the one thing that I've learned here at IRP is patience. Just be patient. We ran about the same speed we ran in qualifying as we ran in practice, and I'm a little disappointed with that. I thought it was a little quicker lap than that. I'm a little disappointed with that, but it was a good lap, and hopefully we'll get a top-five starting spot. If you can't get the pole here, you want to start in the top five because this is a big track-position place."

IS QUALIFYING DURING A ONE-DAY EVENT A BETTER INDICATION OF WHO WILL BE FAST IN THE RACE SINCE YOU HAVE TO QUALIFY BASICALLY WITH YOUR RACE SETUP?

"That's primarily what we worked - race setup. The 18, the 24 and the 50 that are in front of us right now and I don't know if they're race setup or qualifying setup. I know what we have under our truck. We're more concerned about the race than qualifying. It's a good indication of how the field should stack up. Joe Ruttman sat on the pole and then won the race, and hopefully that's not going to be true this year. No matter what, we've built enough adjustability into the truck and we can adjust the truck during the race." HAS THE TRACK CHANGED SINCE LAST YEAR? "I don't think so, but this tire is a ton slower. The tire is really hard and it's hard to get a hold of the race track. I think laps times are way off compared off to where they were just because of the tire."
