FONTANA, CA (October 1, 2004) - After running third in first practice, David Reutimann backed it up with a third-place (40.554 Laptime/177.541 Speed) qualifying effort for the American Racing Wheels 200 at California Speedway.

"We qualified the No. 17 NTN Bearings Toyota Tundra third," said Reutimann. "Toyota took the top-four positions in qualifying. Toyota has great horsepower and we have a good piece for the race. Our first lap was good enough for the third spot. On our second lap, we had a bad vibration and we didn't know what it was. We found out later that we broke a gear."

After the Darrell Waltrip Motorsports team changed gears, Reutimann was ready for final practice at the two-mile tri-oval.

"The track will change this evening," said Reutimann. "It helps that we have final practice. We need this because we had some problems last week. We are going to put our heads together and talk to some of the other Toyota teams. It's great that I can go to Travis Kvapil and Mike Skinner and they'll give it to me straight. They probably give it to me straight so I'm not in the way."

Reutimann is currently 14th in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series points standings. The Raybestos Rookie points leader has one Bud Pole Award, three top-fives and eight top-10s in 19 starts this season.

Live coverage of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event at California Speedway is scheduled to air Saturday, October 2nd at 10 p.m. EDT live on SPEED Channel. The event will be broadcast on MRN Radio.
