Multiple Groove Action Under the Lights in California Exciting for Chaffin.
California Preview: "I enjoy going out west and racing on tracks like California Speedway. It offers multiple racing grooves. It is one of the tracks you can draft on and that becomes really noticeable as the race progresses. You will see much of the same racing action as we did in Michigan earlier in the season. You come really close to racing wide open at California, but never all the way. The ability to change grooves allows for great racing for the fans and the drivers. Racing under the lights provides a better show for the fans and I feel that is what many of the tracks are going after. I enjoy racing under the lights because the weather is a lot cooler and that benefits both the fans and the teams."
Not Finished Yet: "I am not close to being done this season for sure. It has been a lot of fun and has built my confidence level up. I think I can race 10 more years easily as long as I can stay competitive enough that I can keep getting good rides. That's the main thing. I'd love to stay at Bobby Hamilton Racing the next few years. I know Bobby is talking about retiring in the next two or three years and I hope to stay on there then as well. The way these teams are formatted, you typically have a younger driver and an older driver, so maybe I can take over the elder driver role and put in six or seven years at BHR. Then we can bring up a younger guy through the second team. Funny thing is right now, even at my age, I'm playing the young guy role at BHR. Maybe in a couple of years I'll be able to step into the veteran role and teach a young driver what Bobby has taught me."
* Chad is racing Scarface this weekend at California.
* He has raced it five times this season finishing in the top five twice with this truck.
* Chaffin finished 17th at California Speedway last season.
Chaffin on the Chase: "In the beginning I was not for the change in the point system in Nextel Cup. I thought it was fine the way it was. I feel NASCAR wanted something to build fan base and decided to do it by changing the points. I think it has worked well for them. It has brought a lot of attention to the sport and that is positive for everyone involved. I do feel there is a concern with the top 10 receiving all the media coverage in the final races, but I know there is another side to that. To get covered in motorsports you have to run up front and I feel who ever is running up front will receive the coverage they deserve. But the top 10 will still be the main focus. I have never known NASCAR to go back on anything they have ever done, so eventually I think the same system will be used in both the Busch and Truck series. The only reason I think we won't see it in the other divisions anytime soon is the desire to keep the Nextel Cup Series unique in their championship format."
