Fontana, Calif...Holding down first place in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series point's battle for the third week in-a-row, a second place finish at the American Wheels 200 at California Speedway allowed Brendan Gaughan and Orleans Racing to increase their margin to 42 points.

"We came in to this round with full intention of increasing our lead," said Gaughan, who earned his first pole in the Truck Series. "Although we didn't win, it was a great weekend for Orleans Racing. "We got our first pole, were fastest in 'Happy Hour', led the most laps and got a much strong lead in our chase for the title. That's what running for a Championship is all about, so we really can't complain."

Pulling off the Startline in his 62 American Racing/Orleans Dodge Gaughan took the lead right off the bat, staying in front for the first 44 laps until his first pit stop. Pitting under Green, Gaughan took on four tires and fuel with the Orleans crew getting him back on the track in great time.

"We stayed on the lead lap," said Gaughan. "We were down a few positions, but I figured it wouldn't take long for me to get back in the lead. Our Dodge was running great and I knew we were definitely fast."

"Running around the 2-mile California Speedway tri-oval, Gaughan did just what he figured he could do, retaking the lead on Lap 62. Making his second pit stop under Yellow, Gaughan got a small adjustment for tightness, 4 tires and fuel. Page 2

Back on the track in short order as soon as the Green flew, Gaughan began to again go for the lead. Moving into first on Lap 74, he continued to lead until Lap 91.

"We got really tight," he said. "Which wasn't surprising afterwards when the crew discovered we had left front going down. Musgrave caught up with me and got by just nine laps before the end. Hard as I tried, I just couldn't reel him in and we ended in second. I would have liked to have won this won for American Racing Wheels, who have been a long time sponsor of mine, but as I said earlier, all-in-all it was a good day and we accomplished a whole bunch towards the title."
