Dotter times in 20th in trick or treat NCTS test at Fontana.
Fontana, CA Bobby Dotter ended the day in the 20th position on the time charts as practice opened for the American Racing Wheels 200 at California Speedway, the 20th event on the 2002 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series schedule. Dotter turned a fast lap of 42.954 seconds/167.621 miles per hour on the two-mile D-shaped oval in the #08 People Against Drugs/Puma Tools.com Chevrolet. Dotter's fastest lap was 1.606 seconds off the pace set by Jason Leffler.
"We have come here with something much different from what we have run in the past," Dotter said. "We are working hard on our speedway program. We feel we have a pretty good short track and intermediate package, but we have been weak on the one and a half miles tracks and bigger.
"The truck feels good. The tire temps are all great, but it's not turning like it should. We need to work on a slight tight condition all the way around, but it's a little puzzling because we are not seeing a tight condition in the tire temps. Since we are working with a whole new setup underneath the truck, we don't want to get too radical, overcompensate, and then be really loose."
Dotter will be the first driver to take the green flag in qualifications for the American Racing Wheels 200 on Friday, November 1. Time trials to set the 36-truck field are expected to start at 2:45 pm ET/11:45 am PT. The race is scheduled to begin at 5 pm ET/2 pm PT on Saturday, November 2. It can be heard live on NASCAR Radio on XM Satellite Radio and on MRN Radio affiliates nationwide. It will be telecast on a tape delayed basis on ESPN 2 on Sunday at 5 pm ET/2 pm PT.
