Martinsville, VA---The one certain thing about Martinsville Speedway's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races is their uncertainty. Saturday's $400,037 NAPA 250 will be the sixth truck event run on the .526-mile track and in the previous five there were five different winners. Hometown favorite Jimmy Hensley won last year's race while the other winners have included Jay Sauter, Rich Bickle, Mike Skinner and Joe Ruttman. Hensley, Skinner and Ruttman are among the 46 entries as are Winston Cup drivers Bobby Hamilton, Morgan Shepherd, and Ken Schrader. So close is the competition at Martinsville that 13 trucks finished on the lead lap in 1995, 17 in 1996, 10 in 1997, 13 in 1998 and 14 in 1999. For the 2000 season, Mike Wallace leads the point standings with two victories and $164,850 in winnings. Second place man Andy Houston has a win as does Ruttman. Time trials to determine the 36 starters will be held at 1:40 p.m. Friday. Mike Bliss set the truck qualifying record last year with a speed of 94.275 miles per hour. Winston Cup cars also will qualify at 3 p.m. Friday to decide the top 25 starters and the Bud Pole Position for Sunday's $2,168,867, 45th annual Goody's Body Pain 500. This season in Winston Cup victories have gone to Dale Jarrett, Bobby Labonte, Jeff Burton, Dale Earnhardt, Ward Burton, Rusty Wallace and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Of those, only Burton, Earnhardt and Wallace can claim wins on this tight, demanding .526-mile track. Defending champion for the race is John Andretti while Jeff Gordon took last fall's NAPA AutoCare 500. Tony Stewart holds the Goody's Body Pain 500 and track qualifying record for Winston Cup at 95.275 miles per hour. There have been six different pole winners this year and Jarrett is the only driver who has sat on the top spot twice. Wallace, Gordon, Ricky Rudd, Steve Park and Terry Labonte won the other poles. Saturday's NAPA 250 will start at 2 p.m. while Sunday's Goody's Body Pain 500 will go under the green flag at 1 p.m. Tickets are still available by calling (540) 956-3151 or toll free at 877-Race-Tix.
